What We Believe
"Friendship Church’s mission is to reach the community with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ, teach that the Bible is relevant to everyday life, and connect individuals in vital relationships to love God and serve others."
The Bible is the main basis for our faith as Christians.
We believe the Bible is entirely from God and was given to us by people God specifically chose. We believe the Bible is without fault or error as it was originally written. The Bible has the final say in our Christian lives as it relates to issues of faith and living.
Ultimately, we believe there is no other book ever written that is equal to the Bible and it is the only book God gave us to know Him personally and and to know His plan for people.
We believe that there is only one true God.
This one God is all-holy, all-knowing, and all-powerful. We believe that God is eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - each possessing equally all the qualities of God and characteristics of His personality. God created the known Universe and everything in it out of nothing, demonstrating the glory of his power, wisdom, and goodness. God sustains the universe by His infinite power. God is involved in human history to fulfill His plans and desires for humanity.
Jesus Christ, Son of God, is the eternal second person of the one true God that became human (both God and man) by a miraculous conception and virgin birth.
He lived a life of perfect obedience to God, the Father, and voluntarily paid the price for the sins and rebellion of all people by dying on the cross as their substitute. His death satisfied the justice of God and accomplished salvation for all who trust in Him alone. He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died. He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, where He, the only Mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own. He will come again to earth, personally and visibly, to fulfill history and the eternal plan of God.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He was sent into the world, by the Father and the Son, to open the minds of people, awaken in them recognition of the need for a savior, and apply Jesus' saving work.
At the point of salvation, the Holy Spirit permanently dwells in every believer to become the source of assurance, strength, and wisdom. The Holy Spirit gives each Christian gifts and talents to build up the Christian family. The Holy Spirit guides Christians in understanding and applying the Bible to their lives. His power and control are applied by faith, making it possible for the believer to lead a life of godly living and accomplish work for God.
The main purpose of the Bible is to show that God wants all people to know him and have relationship with him personally.
Humans were originally created to have a loving relationship with God; but humanity chose to rebel and go their separate way. Because humans alienated themselves from God, they suffered the corruption of their nature and made them unable to be in relationship with God. Humans need God's help in order to come back to Him - this is called Salvation. The salvation of humankind is then wholly a work of God's free grace, not the result in whole or in part, of human works or goodness. Salvation must be personally applied by repentance and faith. When God has begun a saving work in the heart of any person, He gives assurance in His Word that He will continue it until the day that person enters eternity.
When someone receives Salvation from Jesus, God begins to give him/her power to learn how to obey His wishes and desires for his/her life. The Holy Spirit leads and guides a person to live differently (more holy) than they did before they were saved. Christians learn to live out their faith through reading the Bible and seeing what God desires for them; praying and building a personal relationship with God, building relationships with other Christians by attending worship services; and serving others in a way that shows God's love to the world.
Death seals the eternal destiny of each person. For all humankind, there will be a resurrection of the body into the spiritual world, and a judgment that will determine the fate of each individual. People who have refused to believe and accept Jesus as Savior will be separated from God into condemnation. God's judgment will reveal His justice in committing them to eternal punishment for their own rejection of God. Believers will be received into eternal relationship with God and will be rewarded for works done in this life.
The church is a collection of all people who believe in Jesus Christ for salvation and seek to live their lives in obedience and love to Him.
The Scripture commands believers to gather together to offer themselves to worship, prayer, teaching the Bible, being baptized, taking communion, having fellowship, serving each other with talents and gifts, and outreach to the community.
Wherever God's people meet regularly in obedience to this command, there is the local expression of the church. Under the care of pastors and leaders, the church's members are to work together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of promoting and pleasing Jesus.
We believe that the Bible is the main and final authority in our lives. However, where the Bible is silent, we do not enforce our personal views or ideas. We believe that each Christian should consider their decisions carefully where God doesn't speak directly. We encourage Christians to pray about and ask their pastors and wise mentors about important decisions.
What happens on Sundays?
Our services last about an hour. We play music from artists like Elevation Worship, Casting Crowns, and Francesca Battistelli.
The message is about 30 minutes long and key points are on the screen for you to follow along.
Relax. You aren't going to be singled out or asked to do anything you aren't ready for.
We have kids programs for nursery through elementary age kids; they'll engage with Biblical lessons and have a great time with leaders and other kids.
We have a lot of things going on at Friendship - you can hear about opportunities in the announcements, read about them in the bulletin, or find out about them on our Facebook page. You're welcome to ask questions and always welcome to get involved.
